But. . .
There's a hiring freeze in the KCPD. The current academy class is being laid off, unless given a federal grant. Officers are going to be pulled of the street in order to staff detention units where the civilian officers have been pulled from because they can't pay their overtime. 911 response times are going to get longer. . .and. . .longer. . .and. . .longer.
One average the department loses 1 officer a week to normal turnover. More will be retiring next month. With the hiring freeze this means MORE work for our boys in blue, and less speedy service for us all. Read Chief Corwin's blog post for all the details.
Yes, it's a recession. Yes, there are cuts everywhere. But isn't a basic public services like the Police something we SHOULDN'T be cutting? Instead of keeping our city safe in a time when people are growing more and more desperate, the city council slashed budgets in the place we need the most. The KC Mayor was the only one unwilling to cut the Police budget. He was ignored and it was cut 15 million dollars.
KC residents, what can you do? Call or e-mail city council members and let them know you don't approve. Let them know this is unacceptable. Let them know you CARE about this happening to our city.

We are so relieved. Jason's sarcastic comment was, "Of course they didn't lay him off, he's the debry man." Just thought I'd add that in there.
I've been meaning to say this but have forgotten more times than I can count. We looked up the cost of a trip to Missouri to visit, with gas and a hotel on the way, it will roughly be $650, which we definitely don't have right now. So unless some one dies and leaves us money (morbid I know, but could happen) or we get another tax rebate or something, the earliest we could come would be after next year's tax return and that's if nothing goes wrong or breaks in the mean time. You are 18 hours away from us and with the baby, we'd have to do the trip in two days. Of course miracles do happen and perhaps Jason will make lots of money this summer, but I doubt it. Summer issually really slow. So perhaps you guys have money or could make the trip in a day. We'd love to have you hear too! There's lots to do. Palmyra is 45 minutes away. The kids would LOVE the Hill Cumorah Pageant. Then of course the 1000 Islands with lots of boats, Niagra Falls, etc... Think about it! There's even a week where we go and stay on the island too, go four wheeling, boating, swimming, etc...

GLORY BE...i am Sooooooo glad to hear that Jeff's still got a job, thanks heavens!!! but that sucks big time about the hiring freeze and longer response times for emergency calls...super scary. it really is unacceptable. there's got to be a better way. now we will pray for the whole KCPD and it's less protected citizens...doh!
Okay, so I thought of this post recently. I locked Vaughn inside the car with my keys outside of the salon in Westport. My baby...in the car, on a sunny day. We called 911. It took them about 20 minutes to get there. Took the locksmith 4 minutes.
Oh, and we were put on hold when we called 911. Thanks KCPD. I know Jeff would have been there in a flash though.
